So.. What do you guys think.. Does it exist? Or do people just like to spend time doing what they love.

I think addiction can exist with anything. MMOs tend to be more addicting because you are not just playing a game, you are socializing with others in the community that enjoy doing what you are doing.

I think it does exist but I think non gamers are way to quick to accuse of it. I spend less time gaming and socializing with my online friends then they do doing other activities like watching tv going to sporting events. Yet it seems if I talk about gaming they say I have a problem. It aggrivates me that gamers carry this stigma. Interactive entertainment is no different then other forms yet it is looked down on by non gamers. all that being said there are those that put gaming ahead of all else. its one thing for gaming to displace other leisure activities but if it displaces work or family obligations then it is a problem. Just like if you did the same to go to a bar.

It's not necessarily what your addicted to but what it drives you to do or neglect. There are plenty of people addicted to exercise, work and sex. All perfectly natural things, unless carried to extremes. |
